A family property
Currently run by the third generation of winegrowers, the estate has been rooted in family tradition since its inception.

1950s
After a career in the police, Paul Bougès decided to settle in the heart of the Médoc, in the small village of Saint-Sauveur, where his wife Jeanine is from.
They then exploit a few plots of vines which are vinified at the the Canterayne cooperative cellar.

1988
In 1983 their son Gérard Bougès took over the small farm, gradually expanding it by planting new plots, while at the same time creating his own mechanical agricultural service business.
After several years of work and determination, he decided in 1988 , accompanied by his wife Marie-Christine, to produce his first vintage at the property under the name Château La Fon du Berger .

1999
The sequel will reveal other acquisitions and plantations, but also the construction in 1999 of the current vat room as an extension of the barrel cellar.
It was in this same year that the first vinification of Pauillac took place on the farm.

2003
Château La Fon du Berger became Cru Bourgeois and has since strived to maintain its uninterrupted status in this classification, which rigorously selects the finest Médoc properties.

2014
The 2010s marked the arrival of a new generation on the property.
Vincent Bougès, eldest son of Gérard and Marie Christine, an agricultural engineer by training, takes over the management of the vineyard and ensures the monitoring of the vinification of the wines, after several years of experience at Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac.
At the same time, in 2015, he bought vines belonging to the former Saint-Sauveur cooperative cellar and created his own estate, Château Les Gravilles .

2022
More recently, Guillaume Bougès, the youngest, joined the business to take care of the commercial side after studying law and working for several years in real estate and regional planning.
Since the summer of 2022, he has opened a first cottage to welcome tourists and begin to develop wine tourism on the property.

Today
The family adventure that began over 70 years ago continues at Château La Fon du Berger and enables us to meet the many challenges of tomorrow in order to offer quality wines that respect their territory.

"La Fon du Berger"
The choice of name comes from the place called “La Fon du Berger”, (the fountain in Occitan) in the Commune of Pauillac where one of the first plots of family vines is located.
It was on these lands that the shepherds of the Moorlands of Médoquin came to graze their flocks in winter, which produced the famous Pauillac lambs.
